*"The Bureau of Engraving & Printing issued its first official souvenir cards in 1969 and has produced well over 300 at this point. This is the category that comes to mind for most collectors when they think of souvenir cards. Initially, the majority of Bureau cards were stamp-related, but gradually the focus shifted to paper money designs, especially after the Bureau ended production of U.S. postage stamps in 2004. Around this time the BEP rebranded their souvenir cards as "intaglio prints" since many did not commemorate a specific show or event. From 2007 to 2017, the BEP was restricted from printing complete currency designs and instead featured Bureau portraits and vignettes. In 2018 they resumed using currency on their cards."
