Mrs. Stewart\'s Bluing (8 Sheets)

The purchase of this stamp/s will earn you 80 points valued at $1.60.

This is a photo of the actual sheets you will receive.

Lot contains 9 Mrs. Stewart's sheets. One sheet autographed by Allyn K. Ford, perforation separation at top which is common on this sheet.

In 1883 the Stewarts sold the company to Luther Ford. Luther Ford's son, Allyn, happened to be a stamp collector and member of the American Philatelic Society. He decided to use his knowledge of philately to help his business, and, in 1939, created a poster stamp that parodied the recently released US postage stamp commemorating 50 years of statehood for Washington, Montana, and the Dakotas (Scott #858). The stamp was issued in a pane of two, but was soon followed by the same design, slightly smaller, printed in a sheet of 4. The sheets were so popular with collectors, that Ford continued with new ones for several years.
