Perhaps the world's greatest athlete he excelled in many sports. Jim Thorpe became the first to win both the pentathlon and decathlon, at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Germany. However, he was unfairly stripped of his medals when it was learned he had violated Olympic rules by playing semi-pro baseball in 1910. In 1982, the International Olympic Committee reversed its decision and returned the medals to Thorpe's family.
